About the Presenter: Ann Shenk is Director of Service Development of Bolton Hospitals Trust, where she is the Executive Director Lead for Service Improvement (other responsibilities include Business Planning and IM&T). Ann has worked in the NHS since 1979 in various business management, planning and service improvement roles. Since 2005, she has been responsible for the development of the Bolton Improving Care System (BICS) using lean thinking.
BICS is now recognised as fundamental to the vision and strategy of the Royal Bolton Hospital – a 600-bedded acute hospital in the North West of England.
Early experiences of using lean methods has shown great potential. The Trust recognises that these are the early steps on a continuous lean journey but has set its sights on a whole-organisation transformation through lean.
