Principles
of 5S by Ken Hoover
The 5S
principles are said to be the first tools to
use when implementing a process improvement
project, and the most basic tools that can be
used to improve efficiency anywhere in the
world – in every office, cubicle, workshop,
kitchen, or anyplace that is currently
cluttered and therefore is a candidate for
improved productivity.

About the Presenter:
Ken Hoover is an Account Manager for the NCSIES
serving in the Piedmont Triad Regional Office -
North, located in Greensboro, NC. He has served
in this role for the past two (2) years,
contacting current and prospective clients in
the Piedmont Triad North Region to gain an
understanding of their needs to enhance their
business growth and profitability. This, in
turn, leads to opportunities for IES to
contribute to their success. He also interacts
with local community colleges, economic
development leadership, and chambers of
commerce to establish IES as a knowledgeable
resource for the business community.
His
career has included more than 35 years of
professional experience in the textile industry
and the plastics industry. His experience
includes nearly all aspects of business
activity, including manufacturing management,
product development, process improvement,
quality assurance, planning, cost management,
customer service and technical service. His
most recent assignments included the business
unit responsibility for internal quality
assurance and external customer technical
service for a textile firm. Ken is a 1969
graduate of NC State University with a BS in
textile chemistry.
